Dathliad Cymru-Affrica

We are so excited to be partnering with The Successors of the Mandingue African arts company to be a host venue for their Dathliad Cymru-Affrica (Wales African Celebration in Welsh) festival this year!

The festival platforms and celebrates the richness of diversity in Wales, specifically African diaspora culture and arts, with African artists based in Wales and guest artists from around the UK and Africa. The festival will be a platform for showcasing collaborative work, including Afro-Welsh fusions and performances and includes participatory workshops in dance and percussion.

Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Experience

Set time: 9.40pm-11pm

Multiple award-winning Afrobeat Ambassador Dele has been consistently flying the Afrobeat flag since 1995. He started his musical career with Fela Kuti’s Egypt 80 band and then co-founded and led childhood friend Femi Kuti’s Positive Force.

Dele was Musical Director and Afrobeat Music Consultant for the US award winning acclaimed musical FELA! at the National Theatre, London and has performed from the Montreux Jazz Festival to Mawazine Festival in Rabat Morrocco; Ollin Khan in Mexico, South Korea to the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.

His blend of complex funk grooves, traditional Nigerian music, African percussion and an underlying sense of jazz combines with his virtuoso keyboard skills and rhythmic singing to make him one of the most respected Afrobeat authorities of his era.

Dele will be joined by his 7 piece band.

Adjua & Band

Set time: 6pm-7pm

Adjua, is a Welsh/ Ghanaian songwriter, instrumentalist, and producer. She brings a unique and stylish Indie/grunge R&B sound to the Cardiff scene and beyond. She uses her distinct songwriting skills to create beautiful yet haunting melodies and harmony. With a particular lyrical focus on self-awareness, her music will leave you feeling reflective, emotional and wanting more. We can’t wait for her performance with full band at Bluestone Brewing Co on August 24th as part of the Dathliad Cymru-Affrica festival programme.

Ayoub & Ffion

Set time: 5.10pm – 5.30pm

Ayoub Boukhalfa is a queer Moroccan singer known for Moroccan Chaabi music. He leads the Oasis One World Choir and sings with the Coronation Choir and has worked with National Theatre Wales and Sherman Theatre. Ayoub uses his music to promote inclusivity and to support marginalised voices.

Ffion Campbell-Davies is a non binary gender fluid multidisciplinary artist and Associate Director of House Of Absolute. Born in Wales with mixed Grenadian heritage she is a trained dance professional, Qigong practitioner and vocalist, bringing holistic modalities into performance and ritual. Ffion works with film, sound design and performance art using voice, text and poetry within the context of activism and healing.

Together Ayoub and Ffion created Moroccan/Welsh fusion song ‘Achkid Awa’. This innovative song harmonises Moroccan Amazigh, Darija, and Welsh languages, resonating as a cross-cultural masterpiece that bridges diverse artistic horizons, showcasing the beauty of unity in linguistic and creative diversity.

Workshops

We will be offering two workshops as part of the festival, everybody is welcome to join in.

The workshops are open to all ticket holders and is suitable for all ages and abilities!
